Sinhala-Tamil language issue-Revealed!

During our research on the accusation recently made by Liberal M.P. Mr. Bob Rae on the Sri Lankan issue of non recognition of Tamil language in Sri Lanka, we came across this rare footage of an interview of then Prime Minister of Ceylon, Mr. S.W.R.D. Banadaranaike. Comparing the two, it's obvious how far the truth has been manipulated, distorted by the pro LTTE propaganda machine, that has reached the public and the "greedy' politicians!

Here's the contents of the interview clip above:

Reporter: "Mr. Prime Minister, the introduction of Sinahala as the official language by your government appears to have damaged the good relations which previously existed between the Sinhalese and Tamils. How do you justify the fact?"

SWRD: "Well, when our country became independent, naturally the question arose of a national language superceding English as the official language of the country. Sinhalese, we decided upon as the official language because 70% of the people of Ceylon are Sinhalese. At the same time, we naturally realized that the Tamil minority language was also, old, very rich language in literature, so on. And therefore we decided also to give a reasonable use to the Tamil language, as a language of a national minority, in such matters as education, examinations for the public service, correspondence and so on. We feel that is the fairest way in which the problem could have been settled."
