Toronto, June 16 (IANS)

Despite Colombo's refusal to give visa to its parliamentary secretary Deepak Obhral, Canada said Monday it will continue to engage Sri Lanka on the Tamil issue and work to rehabilitate Tamils displaced by the conflict.

Indian-origin parliamentary secretary (equal to minister of state in India) Deepak Obhrai, who was denied visa by the Sri Lankan High Commission here last week, said Canada remained committed to the reconciliation process in the island nation.

'Despite denial of visa to me, we want to be engaged with Sri Lankans to bring about reconciliation between them and the Tamils,' Obhrai told IANS. Obhrai was the second-highest ranking Canadian to be denied entry into Sri Lanka last week.

  3. The best help you can provide is not letting LTTE collect funds in Canadian soil.

Please do not try to forcefully help Sri Lanka.

If the government of Sri Lanka has not invited you to Sri Lanka, just be quiet and stay in Canada.

Last thing that Sri Lanka would need in this juncture is foreign meddling of its internal affairs.

Since you believe you are a good man Deepak, respect Sri Lanka.

  4. Please, Canada, retrieve your former pacifist complexion. What is the ungodly & indecent hurry to interfere in Sri Lanka affairs? Please solve the problems of the native 'Indians' to whom we have done grave injustice. Treat the Tamil Tigers and their descendants in Canada with the contempt they deserve. Why is Canada so hesitant to congratulate & admire Sri Lanka for crushing terrorism there while we have failed to crush the al Queada? Let Lanka look after itself.

  5. Albert your comments are spot on... There are many wise sayings about fixing your own house before worrying about the neighbours and so on (if you can call half way around the globe, neighbours), but unfortunately as long as there are immigrant votes in numbers, there will also be greedy politicians who will pursue them, hiding behind a "cause".
