Then came the interview given by our Sri Lankan HC in Ottawa, Mr. Daya Perera to the CTV as well as the print media. On the TV interview our esteem foreign officer with many years of experience agrees with the interviewer that it was a mistake to not let Bob Rae in to Sri Lanka. The interviewer who was probably as surprised by his stance against GOSL, even goes on to mention HC mentioned this while the camera was on recording.
Next he goes on the print media saying he intends to sue fellow Sri Lankan patriot, Ira de Silva.. for what we can only imagine. All she did was write an article with very valid reasons, why Bob Rae's visit is not productive for Sri Lanka at this juncture. It was something the HC should have done with ease, using an internal mail to his boss in Sri Lanka. May be the he was upset that she and countless other patriots and Associations, including the Consul General in Toronto, has been doing HC's job during these trying times. Either way I believe he has once again opened his mouth and goofed up, making a mockery of our already tarnished name of our country. What he has done is shown to the world that there's no Unity among the Sri Lankans, even now after all the talk of ONE SRI LANKA! Instead of standing by a fellow Sri Lankan patriot for exercising the Freedom of speech and expression, he has decided sue her. Even if he didn't agree with her position, he shouldn't have contradicted the position of GOSL by agreeing it was a mistake to not let Bob Rae in to Sri Lanka.
However I am told that since all these decisions to sue or not has to be approved by GOSL, the chances of an actual lawsuit happening is slim to none. However the damage is done by his actions. I believe it's time we voiced our opinion, first to the high commissioner and then to Dr. Palitha Kohona. As Sri Lankans living in Canada we have the right to at least request a better, stronger representation of our country. We have created 2 polls on the right hand column of this blog. Well... at the rate he is going I am sure Sri Lanka will not want him either... So he might as well ask for political asylum. I am sure Tamil Bob would love to help him. Yes his daughter is here in Canada, but I didn't know he has gone on record that's the reason he is in Canada. If that's the case, it's a given he needs to be booted out!
ReplyDeleteSri Lankan HC in Canada is not foreign service fellow. I dont think he has any idea what is like to represent SL in another country. Same goes with UK Sri Lankan HC. This guy cant even talk properly. In UK its get better, president's son stays at HC house. This stupid guy is planning send most experieced carrer diplomat home.
ReplyDeleteI commend Daya Perera for speaking his mind. It is pretty difficult to work for a bunch of egotistical idiots. He approved the Visa for Bob Rae to visit Sri Lanka. The GOSL were in the wrong to contradict the actions of the foreign envoy. They should have backed him, allowed Rae in, appeased him and sent him back and nobody would have been the wiser. In fact nobody would have even known he was ever in Colombo.
ReplyDeleteThen they could have discreetly handled the matter with Mr. Perera and could have indicated to him that they would prefer not to allow a perceived LTTE sympathizer into the country in the future. I personally do not beleive Bob Rae is a sympathizer, but that is another matter.
