Top Tiger leaders killed in a major debacle for LTTE

This is written by D.B Jeyaraj, a well respected Tamil Journalist, who once predicted the annihilation, that the LTTE is now facing (Whither the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam?) - Sinhaya

April 6th, 2009 by D.B.S. Jeyaraj

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) organization suffered a terrible blow in the Aanandapuram area of Puthukkudiyiruppu AGA division. In what may very well be the defining moment of the on going war the tigers have lost a vast array of illustrious fighting commanders as well as large numbers of cadres in a single battle. More than 525 bodies of dead LTTE fighters have been recovered and a special military intelligence squad is busy identifying those killed. The details are being revealed in stages. The LTTE keeps “official silence” over the debacle and its propaganda networks keep “mum” but the bad news is spreading slowly yet surely.

LTTE stalwart and head of its sports division “Paappaa” telephoned the elder brother of “Colonel” Theepan living in Canada and informed him of the demise of his sibling.

Likewise different tiger officials are informing close family members of the other tigers about what has happened to their departed relatives.

Clashes as Tamils rally in London

Take note City of Toronto & Metro Police... this could be you next time! Pro LTTE will change their stripes as they get desperate, and may not be the peaceful type you think they are. Make sure you are ready to protect the Canadians. - Sinhaya

Four people have been arrested during clashes between the police and Tamils who are staging an ongoing protest outside the Houses of Parliament. Scores of police officers boxed in hundreds of demonstrators to move them off the roads and into Parliament Square, sparking minor scuffles. Some needed medical attention for minor injuries and a man is in hospital after jumping into the Thames on Monday.

The latest scenes from Westminster showed angry protesters chanting and waving banners, with some pushing and shoving. Earlier, protesters in Parliament Square were surrounded by scores of police officers and police vans. Some scuffles appeared to break out as police tried to take away Tamil flags. Until then, police had described the atmosphere as peaceful.

Both sides share blame for Sri Lankan troubles: Rae
Layton Seeks Ceasefire

Matthew Coutts, National Post
Published: Saturday, April 04, 2009

A conference on Sri Lanka's humanitarian crisis that was harshly critical of that country's government heard a somewhat different message yesterday when Liberal MP Bob Rae told delegates the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam must also be held culpable for the decades-long civil war that has led to hundreds of thousands of civilian casualties and displacements.

"What I have to say here today will not necessarily make everyone thrilled," Mr. Rae told about 100 Tamil Canadians attending the Human Rights and Sri Lanka Conference yesterday.

"There is irrefutable evidence of breaches of international humanitarian law and breaches of international obligations on the part of both the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) and the government of Sri Lanka. It has to be understood that the solution we have seen to conflicts like this around the world have involved ... a commitment from both the parties that a military solution is not the answer," he said.

India breaks another LTTE weapon smuggling ring

Sun, Apr 5 04:11 PM New Delhi, April 5 (IANS)

India has broken yet another Tamil Tiger ring that sought to smuggle war material to the rebels, arresting four men including a British national of Sri Lankan origin in Chennai.

Acting painstaking sleuthing, the four were formally detained Friday from the southern Chennai suburb of Thiruvanmaiyur. They included a member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

It is the first crackdown on the LTTE this year in Tamil Nadu, which is separated from Sri Lanka by a strip of sea and where political passions are running high due to the war against the Tigers in the island that has reached a decisive stage.

The truth about Tamil statistics
Toronto Star, Apr 04, 2009 09:26 AM, KATHY ENGLISH

When a human chain of Tamil Canadian protesters circled Toronto's city core last month, the Star reported the "fact" that Greater Toronto is home to 200,000 Tamils, the largest Sri Lankan Tamil community outside Sri Lanka.

Is that number in fact correct? Short of lining up and counting every Tamil in Toronto, the Star can't determine exactly how many have come from Sri Lanka to make the GTA home. The best we can do is provide readers with a fair approximation from authoritative sources.

In a city that's now home to a multitude of ethnic populations, who keeps count of the diverse numbers in the GTA? In reporting complex population statistics, who should journalists look to for the best sources of accurate data?

Not in our name

Selva Kumar, Jamal Mohamed and Lenin Benedict, National Post
Published: Thursday, April 02, 2009

Roy Ratnavel's recent National Post article ("Why Canada's Tamils are upset," March 20) may lead readers to the mistaken belief that all Tamils in Canada share the same opinion on the situation in Sri Lanka. In fact, not all Tamils in Canada are from Sri Lanka (many come from India, Malaysia, Singapore and other nations). And even among those Canadian Tamils who do come from Sri Lanka, not all support the LTTE (better known as the Tamil Tigers) or its Canadian affiliates. In fact, most of us don't support the group.

There are over a million Tamils in Sri Lanka's south living peacefully among the country's Sinhalese and Muslims. Many Tamils in Canada come from these areas, and aspire to see this same sort of pluralism in the formerly LTTE-controlled regions in Sri Lanka's north and east.

Tamil Nadu CM Karunanidhi receives death threat

Once again the LTTE has shown their real colours, even to those who show sympathy towards their cause. It seems if they (the terrorists) are not happy with kind of "support" they get from their sympathizers, the best answer is to threaten and eventually kill them. The news below is from Tamil Nadu, India where the LTTE tigers have the largest support base, which makes us wonder what they would do, if the second largest group of sympathizers didn't live up to their expectations... That's Canada, and specifically Toronto! Liberal politicians and pro LTTE Canadian media might want to take notice of these kinds of reports, rather than reporting fictional stories about the situation in Sri Lanka. They should think twice before cuddling such a dangerous animal and going to bed with the "wrong" crowd! -Sinhaya

Press Trust Of India, Chennai, April 03, 2009

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Friday received a death threat allegedly from the banned LTTE, police said. Police said a letter carrying the symbol of the proscribed outfit issuing the death threat was received at Karunanidhi's Gopalpuram residence.

Following the threat, security has been stepped up for the Chief Minister, who already is in the 'Z plus' category. A case has been filed with the Central crime branch of the city police which is probing the matter. Police officials said the Union Home Ministry had already warned of a terror threat to Karunanidhi from LTTE, which is engaged in what is been termed as the "last ditch battle" in Sri Lanka.

Spine-chilling horror during an escape attempt

An incident in the liberation struggle according to the Tigers

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1, 2009 By Jyoti Easwaran in Vavuniya

During the early days of the human shield crisis, a group of some two hundred civilians conspired to breakaway from the clutches of the Tigers and escape through the jungles and into the territory under the control of the Armed Forces. Soon this group swelled into about five hundred and most of them with a mamotty in their hands were ready to move just before midnight. Their one hope was that there were no Tigers nearby.

Hardly had they moved a kilometer they were confronted with a wall of armed Tigers who ordered them to stop on the spot and wanted to know what was happening and why they had mammotties in their hands.

It was then one of them said very sheepishly they wanted to go over to a more secure and safer place. This angered the Tiger cadres, some seven of them and they were young except for their leader who was perhaps in his thirties. At this point, the leader randomly picked up five and ordered them to come forward. Then he lined them up facing this group and without a moment’s hesitation shot them on their forehead.
